Semanhyia Farms-Berekum Senase, Bono Region-Ghana
Semanhyia Farms, situated in Berekum Senase within the Bono Region of Ghana, marks the inception of Farming in Africa’s agricultural pursuits back in 2018. Initially conceived as a cattle farm, its primary objective was to address the dietary needs of students attending the Semanhyia American School, also located in Berekum Senase. This endeavor aimed to ensure a sustainable source of protein for the school’s student population.
As time progressed, Semanhyia Farms diversified its operations, venturing into poultry farming, where it effectively managed a flock of over 2,000 birds. This expansion demonstrated the farm’s adaptability and capacity to successfully undertake diverse livestock enterprises.
Building upon this momentum and spurred by a growing interest in animal husbandry, Semanhyia Farms extended its focus to goat farming beginning in 2020. With meticulous management practices, the farm flourished, nurturing a herd of over 250 goats. Recognizing the potential for innovation and knowledge dissemination, Semanhyia Farms transformed its goat farm into a multifaceted hub for research, learning, and development in livestock agriculture. This evolution led to the establishment of the Semanhyia Learning and Development (L&D) Farm, renowned for its comprehensive approach to agricultural education and experimentation.
Spanning approximately 6 acres of land, the Semanhyia L&D Farm emerged as a beacon of practical learning for students and agricultural stakeholders alike. Visitors flocked to the farm from far and wide, eager to glean insights and hands-on experience in livestock farming practices. Semanhyia Farms’ commitment to knowledge exchange and capacity building not only enriched the local community but also contributed to the broader advancement of agricultural expertise within the region.
In essence, Semanhyia Farms epitomizes Farming in Africa’s dedication to sustainable agriculture and agricultural education. Through its journey from cattle farming to poultry production and ultimately goat farming, the farm has not only met the nutritional needs of its local community but has also emerged as a pivotal center for agricultural innovation and learning in the Bono Region of Ghana.
